Shipping is used in most international trade operations from import and export, because shipping is able to carry very large quantities of cargo more than other types of shipping, access to places not even land transport, and shipping is economically and environmentally friendly when compared to other shipping types.
What is sea freight?
It is the process of shipping goods in containers that are protected on board a giant cargo ship carrying approximately 15,000 shipping containers of different sizes and types, so that the ship’s maximum cargo can reach 400,000 tons.
Sea freight features
Sea freight has features that make it an international favorite over other shipping types, including:
Capacity: Shipping is characterized by its ability to withstand large shipments that cannot be delivered by air or land.
The cost of shipping decreases as the volume of the shipment increases, making shipping costs more economical than other types of shipping, but taking longer.
The possibility of shipping almost all types of materials through shipping: such as dry goods, automobiles and heavy equipment, shipping is characterized by a lack of restrictions on hazardous and sensitive materials, while international and domestic laws do not allow the air shipment of certain materials, such as gases, flammable materials, chemicals, magnets and toxicity, which can be easily transported across the sea as long as they can withstand long shipping time.
Types of sea freight
We can divide shipping into two basic types depending on the way materials are distributed in containers:
Shipping below container load (LCL): Used when the cargo size is smaller than the container, allowing several shipments to take advantage of one container and share the cost of the container and shipping.
Full container shipping (FCL): Used when the shipment is large or contains sensitive materials and needs special attention.
Types and sizes of sea freight containers
Each type of shipped material has its own shipping containers to maintain throughout the shipping journey, and the most important types of shipping containers are:
Dry containers: Suitable for the preservation of dry goods that are not affected by changing temperatures and weather factors, such as clothing, and range in size from 20 to 40 feet.
Refrigerated containers: They are designed to fit materials that need to be preserved at certain temperatures, such as seafood, medicines and short-lived products, and are similar in size to dry containers.
Open-roofed containers: containers specifically designed for goods that cannot be placed in closed containers, such as large and long goods, where products are introduced from above and thoughtfully to accommodate the largest number of goods.
When do you have to choose sea freight?
Sea freight is your most appropriate option in the following cases:
When the cargo is too large and not suitable for air transport.
When the shipment contains unsafe materials, it is not allowed to be transported by air.
If the shipment is not urgent, the materials can withstand the long shipping time.
It should be noted that road transport is a necessary complement to shipping, in order to deliver the shipment to the shipping point (A) and then to the receiving point (B).
Wego Cargo offers diversity of shipping services: from port to port and door-to-door, just choose points (A) and (B) and we will connect them by coordinating with our extensive shipping and land transport network.
